Sounding like GT original
So I have arrived. I must now face the ultimate Challenge. D Music cover contest 2009. Ode to GT original. If I fuck it up he will probably kick my arse as he knows Karate.
Sometimes it can be fun
Cheating on your taxes in the sun
But now I’ve opened up the doors
I see Gary Tuckers having fun
He may sing a bit like Morison
If Jim had gotten from the bath
But to me it all is fine if it ends 69
Check out my boa constrictor
Lord its such a total disgrace
I just aint got no class
I’ve got a butt for a face
Nothings really been the same
Better let me catch my breath
Then it go down time for a spot of 69…yeah
But no body understands
I know Karate you know man
I’m likely to get hosed
Or perhaps you’ll break my nose
That’s the way it goes
With an arse for a face
Turn around in time look its 1969 how bout 69
Turn around in time look its 1969 how bout 69

Thanks Gene. I guess the concept of this is to kind of fit into the whole GT Original Parody thing. I always tend to get black Magic Marker and Sounding like the doors stuck in my head at work and I though singing the lyrics of GT to something a lot like the doors might get it out of my head for a while.....lol. I of course added my own filthy C Shovel edge to it so I guess its not strictly a cover...?

You're right; this song isn't a strict adherence to the definition of a "cover song".
It's more like Gary than any strict adherence to the definition of a "cover song" could possibly be.
I could go on and on about how damn-nigh-genius it is in that regard and how much most of us delight in Gary's work, but I know neither of you would be comfortable with me gushing like that, so I won't.
This is hilarious; it's just about perfect as a tribute, and...trying to imagine never having heard "Riders...", anything of yours or Gary's...a really enjoyable listen all on its own.

Wow! I don't know what to say, this is just the coolest damn thing ever. I disagree - it's a cover of the highest order. It references a whole truckload of songs I did, both dead and alive ones. It may even inspire me to ressurect a couple of them. Even the sick perverted side of Steven got slipped in there, using subtle GT-Like double entendres and such.
The Quantas flight leaves JFK tomorrow morning. Too bad I can't afford to be on it. Maybe if I cheat on my taxes some more hehe. This is killer Steven thank you for doing it.

The only thing that missing is the bridge where the line 'Mr. Mojo Risin'..is sang in deference to your MIA collab partner.
Enjoyed it Steven.

, RM, We've all chewed shoes at one point or another. Haha..
This is truly a tribute to GT, Imitating GT imitating Morrison. Personally, I would have wasted three weeks just trying to decide what song to cover and this seems like the perfect solution to me! I was going to offer to Mojo for that but he would probably take it the wrong way...

Okay, I have to admit that I never liked The Doors that much (maybe I'm just too young). But apart from that you really captured the feeling of the original song and the the sound of The Doors, too. Extra points for doing this on your own after your partner Mojo simply disappeared.

This is great. Unconventional take on a cover but it works very well. As I listen I am drawn to the analogy of a photograph versus a scent.
A straight cover in many ways is like looking at a photo - it reminds you of someone but you know they are not really there. This on the other hand is like catching a whiff of Gary's favourite musical cologne, making it seem like he is actually present when you listen.
You have excelled yourself with this Steve. Weaving so many little details into the patchwork quilt of this song is no mean achievement but you have carried it off so well that it seems very natural.
Very impressive.

A little Gary here, a little Gary there, a little bit of Gary everywhere! This is such a blast, a great combination of Steven Davies, Gary Tucker, and a dash of the Doors' signature music... what more could we ask? Love it, Steven!
